The Ultraviolet light is classified in three ranges of wavelength:
UV-A from 315nm to 400nm
UV-B from 280nm to 315nm
UV-C from 100nm to 280nm
We can offer UV-A 350nm and 360nm and Germicidal Lamps 254nm that is part of UV-C.

UV-C Cold Cathode 254nm Germicidal Lamps
Quartz Germicidal Lamps are low pressure lamps that generate most of the energy at 254nm (253,7nm - Mercury line) and some energy at 185nm. In medical terminology they are known as UV-C lamps. The mechanical structure of a germicidal lamps is the same as for a Miniature Cold Cathode Florescent Lamp but instead glass the envelope is manufactured with quartz. At these wavelength the most bacteria, spores and viruses are complete destroyed.

As major applications we can mention:
  • Air Disinfection. It is recommended in the area commonly used by people suspected to be infected with Airborne transmitted diseases such us: physician waiting room, hospital waiting room, surgical, room, holding areas, treatment rooms, veterinary and pet facilities, and everywhere where people and/or animals are congregating. Since UV radiation is harmful to human eyes, it is mandatory to avoid direct exposure to UV radiation/light using proper mounting fixtures for these lamps. To accelerate the lamp germicidal effect it is highly recommended a good ventilation/movement of the air using a small fun that will mixed the treated with untreated air, diminishing the concentration of the air born microorganism and bacteria.
  • Air Ozonation. Ozone has odor neutralization ability. The UV-185 energy radiation breaks apart some of the Oxygen molecules (O2) into two radicals Oxygen (O-) that combines and forms Ozone (O3).The combined odor neutralization and germicidal effects make UV-C lamps a very low cost methode.
  • Water Disinfection. For many years it is very well known that one of the radiation effects at 254nm is water disinfection with no residual or side effect. Using the UV disinfection system will keep the water free of any bacteria or other organic materials that can grow. UV-254nm radiation is one of the most effective water disinfection method without any residual or side effects. The cost of operation versus chemical methode is very low.
  • Chlorine Removal. Exposing the water to UV-185nm generated by the quartz cold cathode lamps will also lead to a photochemical reaction similarly with the sun radiation. Through photochemical reaction the chlorine disassociates to chlorine ion
    (Cl-) and Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) which can be easy removed
    from the water.
  • Carbon Reduction. Semiconductor Processing Industry requires a high purity of water with no organic based components. The presence of carbon in water can be very efficient minimized exposing the water to UV -185nm germicidal radiation. Under UV radiation some of the water molecules are discomposing on H and OH. As OH radical is a very powerful oxidant all the residual carbon will be transformed in CO2. Typical dosage required may vary between 100mWsec/cm2 to 900mWsec/cm2
  • Sterilization Time. Sterilization time in second = Sterilization Dosage/Radiation Intensity Sterilization Dosage (uW, sec/cm2) = UV intensity * Exposure Time Radiation Intensity (uW/cm2) = UV Intensity / cm2. Our hot filament lamps generate min. 5mW/cm2 (typical 6mW/cm2) at 1 (one) meter distance. At the lamp surface it generates a minimum of 4W at 254nm wavelength. This should be the total time that surface we want to disinfect should remain under UV radiation. To calculate the sterilization dosage for water or air you may need to take in account a certain number of factors such us: lamp intensity radiation, intensity variation within distance, the chamber size, the flow rate, the absorption coefficient of the media, etc
• We recommend all suitable precaution to avoid eyes or skin exposure to UV radiation. It can produce serious damage to the eye, which may lead to temporary or permanent vision impairment. For this reason, the light produced by a germicidal lamp must be carefully shielded against both direct viewing and reflections and dispersed light that might be viewed.
• Do not look straight to the light. Use protective eyewear during operation.
• This UV radiation generated by this lamp is in risk group 1per ANSI or ESNA standard RP-27.3-96.
• Take also all suitable requirements recommended by the government safety code to avoid explosion to UV radiation or a prolong inhalation of Ozone generated by lamp.
• Do not touch the glass/quartz with the bare hands.
• Use appropriate protection, wires and insulated materials to avoid surge voltage from the lamp leads.
• Discard the lamps in accordance with safety cod requirements for materials containing Mercury.
• This lamp should not be used for therapeutic or cosmetic purposes nor for diagnostics.

• Do not touch the inverter or auxiliary circuits during operation. You are working with a high voltage device.
